This was the worst night I have ever spent in a hotel. 'The Park Hotel' is poor in every sense of the word. On arrival we were downgraded from the Deluxe Triple to a Twin (with no extra charge, which was kind) it was just as well one of our party didn't show. The room was okay, although the toilet... more

I had read some slightly perturbing reviews of the Park Hotel and was a little put off by the run down gardens and bare floorboards in the reception area, which made it look a little like a backpacker's hostel. However, these first impressions were misleading: our twin room was well furnished, with new fittings and beautful central light and co-ordinating... more

Hotel is clean, quiet and not too far from the centre but has numerous quirks/faults which let it down. My advice is that the hotel is ok, it is not a bad back-up option, but it might be an idea to look elsewhere first. We stayed here for one night for a family graduation ceremony. We had left booking a... more

The photos of this place were obviously taken by an estate agent! Poorly signed, entrance to hotel is shabby, garden overgrown. Double room was the size of a large wardrobe, bed squashed up against the window! Ensuite could do with some shelving to put bits & pieces on, small shelf above sink inadequate. Area generally a bit run down, and was... more

Chose this hotel after reading the recent reviews - and I agree with their assessments. Plus points are: wall-mounted TFT digital TV in the bedrooms, wine glasses a nice touch, large residents' lounge, great full English breakfast, good location - 5 minutes walk from the city centre yet in a quiet area, and friendly staff . Minus points are: tiny... more

I've stayed at the Park Hotel a couple of times, the first time, I was a bit dubious after reading some poor reviews, however after 2 visits i'm quite happy with this place. To get the con's out of the way - apparantly it's not a great location - supposedly nr the red light area, BUT i've never been approached... more

This is an excellent hotel for the price. The refurbished rooms were lovely with great beds, flat screen TV and coffee making facilities. The dining room was being refurbed so they brought us breakfast in bed which was fresh and tasty. The staff were polite, friendly and I feel would have gone out of their way to help. Hotel is... more

I cannot understand how this hotel can advertise a standard double room for 2 people when the reality is that our room was a tiny space with a double bed, (NUMBER 5) .The so called en-suite was ridiculous with a toilet & shower squashed into a space so small that the wash hand basin is located outside. The heating was... more

I stayed in this hotel in late July for 1 night. To be honest I wasn't expecting much as I had only paid £35 for a double room, room only. My first impression of the hotel was not brilliant (as I whisked by on the tram). It looked like the sort of hotel you would expect in the Adams Family.... more

I guess this place must have changed hands because all the bad reviews are from 2003 to 2005 and the only review in 2006 is favourable. We paid £55 for a double room, the concierge was amiable and helpful. The bed itself was lush, en suite in good order with shower and bath and complimentary shower gel, etc. (macadamia and... more
