My wife and I booked a weekend stay (Friday - Sunday) and paid for a superior room. First impressions were fine. Dark-haired bespectacled young girl on reception seemed efficient and showed us to our room (Room 10) on the ground floor. The room appeared nicely decorated, had a LCD TV, aircon and a small terrace area. However, on closer inspection... more

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Jorvik Hotel and we were extremely disappointed by our room. The hotel is described as undergoing refurbishment to set it as a 4star luxury establishment - yet there was nothing luxury about our stay! We booked and paid for a superior double room and it was not. On the email confirmation that we... more

We stayed at the Yorvik earlier in the year. Here are our reflections and opinions. Beautiful little brochure and website ... horrible experience. The room had been redecorated but the bathroom didn't function (no hot water), the telephone was not connected, the sheets and duvet were dirty ... and this was the second room we were offered, as the first... more

Me and my boyfriend chose this hotel as website made the deluxe room sound really nice but in reality it wasnt. Many items declared on website for the superior room were absent and we chose to stay at this hotel for these reasons. No plasma TV with DVD and freeview, no heated mirrors or towel rails, no plug for the... more

We had high hopes for the hotel because of the photographs on the website, but be warned - they are nothing like the run-down, out of date Fawlty Towers reality! On arrival it took more than two hours for our room to be ready. The telly was not tuned in properly, the coffee machine did not work, the bathroom light... more

Utterly dire hotel. The refurb has been designed to pack in guests like sardines, with zero thought to our comfort. Horribly oppresive, dark, tiny room they gave us - calling it a 'Deluxe'. At check-out, I listed 18 reasons why it wasn't (including exposed electrical wiring) and was given a miserly £20 refund. One to avoid. more

Overnight stay booked during Eatser 2008. On booking advised that hotel is being refurbished and the room available to us has not been refurbished but 'was fine'.Arrived expecting dated decor shabby curtains and carpets which is what we got. It was clean and staff friendly. However despite the upgrade needed I expected heating to be working, shower to be functional... more

I booked a room at the hotel last minute for Valentines day. I was aware that the hotel was undergoing refurbishment at the time. Upon arrival I was very impressed at the new reception area and updated restaurant. It is a different class compared to how the hotel looked when I stayed last. Staff were friendly and showed good knowledge... more

I have eaten in the restaurant twice now and really enjoyed it. It is a comfortably furnished room with crisp white table linen and flowers on the tables. The room is quiet and over looks the garden. The food is 'British' from freshly cooked ingredients and the prices are very reasonable (3 courses from 15 - 25 pounds depending on... more
