The Ryokan Shigetsu is a great way to stay in traditional style accommodation without giving up any of the trimmings. Sure the rooms are not huge but the beds are comfortable and agreeable for everyone other than those who have difficulty getting down to floor level. The free use of a computer and internet at reception is a nice touch.... more

I first stayed at Ryokan Shigetsu in 1997, with my most recent stay in 2007. In my experience, the Shigetsu is clean, comfortable, has a terrific location, and is reasonable in cost. The staff is very friendly and speak fluent English. I haven't found a better place to stay in Tokyo. more

Don't stay here, unless you enjoy BED BUGS. I stayed first in the Japanese style single room on the 4th floor. I arrived at around 10pm and it was raining outside and was shown to my room by an elderly gentlemen. He explained that there's no one at the front desk after 11am. I thought - no problem!! Right after... more

My recommendation after staying here - DO NOT STAY HERE - They have BED BUGS !!!!!!! I stayed in this hotel in January 2000 and loved it. It has a great location in Asakusa and although the rooms are small they were well kept and clean. 8 years later - the location is still great, and hotel "appears" clean, yet... more

The only reason to stay here is the price - we paid 157,000 yen a night and stayed 3 nights. There were several problems though: the hotel charged our credit card twice for the time we were there, and even though the first night we stayed in a Japanese style room without a bath, they still charged us the same... more

Stayed here for 4 nights in July 2008 with my 2 teenage boys in a "triple" Japanese style room. Tiny and noisy room (#201). Our 3 futons were literally wedged wall to wall . Trucks and traffic unload throughout the night in front of the hotel. The futons are never put away and cover every inch of floor space. You... more

We stayed at the Ryokan Asakusa Shigetsu for 5 nights. It is in a great location (near Senso-ji Temple and a short walk from the subway). The staff was friendly and helpful. We had hoped to have a Japanese style room, but they were all booked. Nonetheless, we were quite pleased with our Western style room. more

My husband and I stayed at Ryokan Shigetsu May 24 and 25th our first two nights in Japan, and really loved the traditional Japanese feel of the place right in Tokyo. It is conveniently located near Nakamise-dori and Sensoji Temple as well as a subway station that gives you access to downtown Tokyo. It was a nice quiet retreat from... more

My husband and I stayed at the Ryokan Shigetsu for 3 nights and found it to be very comfortable and in a great location. The futons were the most comfortable we encountered during our 10 days in Japan, and the bathroom was small but clean. The staff was very responsive and spoke English well enough to answer our questions and... more
