New York City is one of the most popular travel attraction, however, the hotel is expensive. Somerset NJ is one of very few area near New York City that has lots of hotels with great rate. It is a very good place to stay while visiting New York City.

1. Macy's 4th of July Fireworks at Liberty State Park

| Macy's has this wonderful fireworks for 30 years!!! and each July 4, one can observe the fireworks at Liberty State Park at NJ Turnpike x14 before visiting New York City, and there are free drink, food, music ...etc. 5 barges on the river, and when the fireworks starts at 9pm or 9:30pm, you hear the music along. It is fantastic, never miss it!!! |

2. Liberty Science Center

| Liberty Science Center can be easily accessed thru NJ Turnpike x14B or take Light Weight Rail from Jersey City or Hoboken. It has been under renovation and expansion and will be reopened on July 19, 2007. As a member of Liberty Science Center you are entitled to over 200 museums and aquariums nationwide free. IT is located right at the famous Liberty State Park where you can see gorgeous Manhattan view and take ferry to Ellis Island and Liberty Statue. |

| Edison Train Station parking is free during weekends and holidays. For many NYC visitors may find much cheaper to stay in hotels in Somerset, Edison or Piscataway area and take the NJ Transit train to Midtown Manhattan for only 45 minutes. Edison is top 3 safest area in NJ, many Asian communities and restaurants. |

| Edison Hollow South is very near Somerset and is a condo complex that can walk to Edison Train Station that has NJ Transit to New York City. If you stay at hotels in Somerset and drive to Edison Hollow South and park the car there (FREE!) and take NJ Transit to New York City (Penn Station), you will sure to have great time ... If you are relocating to the area and working at New York City, you will find Edison Hollow South condo perfect to your need. |

This is wonderful hotel with free parking and very comfortable room, very shine with indoor/outdoor pool ...etc. Even better, you bid 3* hotel at Somerset area thru priceline dot com on $33, you can get it!!! It is like my backyard and my own hotel that I use it dozens times a year all at the price ... |

6. Hometown Buffet at Edison at Rt 1 and Rt 529 about 1 mile from Edison Train Station.

| Hometown Buffet is as great as any other sister buffet like Old Country Buffet, but this one at Edison is different in a sense, every Monday night it has great local Live Band to perform that makes the whole place feeling very nice and different at no extra charge. Also, if you happen to be the area, Monday to Friday 1-3pm, the lunch special time only $6 which can't find any places. |

7. Menlo Park Mall at Edison

| If you like mall, you are lucky to be in Somerset area since there is another nice mall only miles away. Menlo Park Mall is a 2-level super regional mall featuring Macy's, Nordstrom, Barnes & Noble Booksellers, The Cheesecake Factory, 12-screen multiplex cinema and a variety of Specialty Foods in our Food Court. Our newest stores include Club Monaco, Dormia, Kenneth Cole, Lucky Brand Jeans, Sony Style, Swarovski, Uniqlo, Zara, Ecco Gelato and Toll Brothers. |

8. Bridgewater Commons Mall

| Bridgewater Commons Mall is one of the largest malls in New Jersey that happen to be very close to Somerset. If you traveling to New York City coming from the west, say, Hwy 78 or Rt 22, you may hit Bridgewater Commons mall first, before arriving the hotel in Somerset. Do not hesitate to have a dinner at nice food court and shop around. |

| Stelton Lanes Bowling is right across street of Fairway Golf, and you can have very cool time in the hot summer. If you happen to be around Sunday and Monday, their Dollar Daze time from 6pm to midnight is only $1. Tuesday to Thursday is All you can Bowl from 9pm to midnight at $9.99 per person with shoes included. Friday and Saturday nights are the best Lazer Linght Bowling 9pm to closing. Saturday and Sunday Family Fun 11am to 6pm $9.99 per person 2 games and shoes. |

| I just had a nice dinner at this wonderful Chinese restaurant, the food were great and the service is prompt, and I tip $20 bill to surprise the waitor as I was surprised by the services I received... Is Grand Shanghai the best Chinese restaurant in Edison ? I am talking The Star-Ledger 3* restaurant at 700 Route 1 North, Edison NJ. Yes, it certainly is. If you are heading to New York City from South, like PA, DE, MD, DC, VA ..., get off NJ Turnpike x9 and take Route 1 North a few miles, as soon as pass Rt 529, Grand Shanghai is right on the right. Even better, the gas station right before Grand Shanghai is one of the best price in New Jersey, so fill the tank and then have a great lunch or dinner before continue on Rt 1 North then Fwy 287 South to Fwy 440 North to Outerbirdge to Staten Island, taking the free 24 hour ferry to Manhattan ... |

12. Chuck E Cheese at Edison

| Chuck E Cheese is a must for traveling families with kids, it is the best rest area where kids can play likes a kid and adults can rest and looking at maps and travel plan while drink and eat. While adults can play token games as well. Try to throw some basketballs and play a hocky with your spouse before heading road and drive again. So, if you coming to New York City from South, you can get out of NJ Turnpike at x9 and heading Route 1 North will hit this nice Chuck E Cheese before Fwy 287 where you can get back on to Fwy 287 South and take Rt 440 North to Outerbridge to Staten Island NY and park the car and take FREE ferry to Manhattan. |

| This event is one of the favorite event of my family and now has become family tradition where we celebrate Chinese Autumn Moon Festival ... From Somerset, you will take Fwy 287 East pass Outerbridge into Staten Island and Rt 440 North and Victory Blvd exit heading Richmond Ferry. The Chinese Scholar Garden itself is located within the Botanical Garden of Staten Island. Itself is a great place to check out, you will feel like in Acient China. At this particular time, you see both hardware and the "software" that has lots of program and shows, and you also got to eat delicious Chinese food and moon cakes ... |
