If you're seeing our country via it's original highway, take some time in Kingman, AZ to rest and rejuevenate. With a beautiful quiet mountain park just up the road a piece, you can take some time to reflect on what you've seen and prepare for what you'll see. Take a hike up a to Wild Cow Springs or if you are a mountain biker, that's even better. Not only that but enjoy some nostalgia and renovation. Kingman offers temperate weather, calm pace, and old west charm. There are places to explore, like natural springs, old miners cabins, old west trails, and so much more. We are surrounded by some of the old wests most fascinating destinations. In less than an hour you can be in Oatman, AZ. Just wind through the mountain valley called Old Oatman Road and stroll down the street and feed the burros. You can even see the room where Clark Gable and Carrol Lombard spent their first married night. A must see! And since you have travelled that direction just head on up to Bullhead City, the Colorado River, and, across the river, Laughlin NV. There you'll find an Outlet mall, for those of us who enjoy the adventure of bargain hunting. After all this exploring, you'll probably be hungry. Laughlin is known as Little Las Vegas. The dining options are endless. Try your hand at the tables or just hit the road back "home" to Kingman. I like to think of our little city also as a launching pad. Whether you want to spend a day, a week, a month or a lifetime we'll keep you busy (or not).

1. Pine Lake Inn Bed and Breakfast
My husband an I love to take a night away at this beautiful b&b. With it's own private lake, balconies with porch swings, wraparound porch, beautiful rooms, enormous great room (that you frequently have all to yourself), Pine Lake Inn is definitely Kingman'a best kept secret. After enjoying a beautiful gourmet breakfast in the sunroom, take a stroll around the Inn's lake and enoy the beauty of the mountain and you might even see and elk or deer strolling by as well. The worst part of this rest stop on 66 is that you can't just move in.
Ave price: $70
Oh what a beauty! This old hotel on 66 has been a stopping place for many a Hollywood star. It is fun to explore the hotel but don't leave without sampling some of the restaurants gourmet cuisine! The tin stamped ceiling tiles and old mohagony staircase are truly a sight to behold. You just gotta stop by.
For a more rustic experience, come up the mountain to the resort. Log cabins style rooms are a perfect fit for the pines. Dine at the Hualapai Mountain Lodge. I took a friend for lunch and while we were enjoying watching the elk through the glass wall the first snow of the season fell. It's charming, rustic, beautiful and the foods not bad either.
The Hoover dam is only about an hours drive and is a remarkable sight to see.
