Its not the biggest or most important national monument, but it has a real Texas feel. A majority of what was the battlefield of the Alamo has been reclaimed as downtown San Antonio, but the museum provides good context and provides the details likely to go unexplained outside of its walls.Try to catch one of the periodic presentations from the... more

My husband and I had lunch on the Riverwalk and exited right near Alamo plazo. I immediatly saw the very small building that is the Alamo. This portion is considered a shrine and had lots of info about the history. As well as a lot of flower wreaths- bad news for my allergies. There was a lovely garden area in... more

It does not take much time to visit this sight but it is a must. Try to see the movie on the Alamo at the IMAX across the street in the RiverCenter Mall. It is very historically accurate and only 40 minutes long but will give you a great understanding of the events that occurred at the Alamo. more

All exhibits associated with the Alamo were free of charge. I was shocked! They accept donations. I visited the Alamo on the final four weekend so I believe the crowds were a bit more than usual. We waited about 20 minutes to enter the shrine area (the main building that you see in your mind's eye when you think of... more

The Alamo is a beautiful site, with amazing architecure. We started with a walk through the area behind the church/ shrine, and then were lucky enough to listen to the history of The Alamo, told by one of the very knowledgeable historians, in the Cavalry Courtyard. He had us on the edge of our seats, while he told the story... more

The Alamo is definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in the San Antonio area because of its historic significance, but it only takes about an hour to walk around. Keep in mind that you can take pictures from the outside, but not inside. It's a beautiful structure and the grounds are nice, but overall we found it... more

I Will deffinatly go back but maybe on a week day in the off season. The whole area around The Alamo is very commercialized. Hotel in every direction.... more

This mission is a great retreat for history buffs, but I would go early in the morning. By midday when we went, there were so many people, we had to stand in line and be herded through. It was kind of hard to think of it as the shrine it is when so many people are in there. Also, even... more

Never knew what The Alamo was really about until I visited San Antonio's River Walk. The Alamo is just a stone throw away from that. The name was always familiar from alot of mexican/cowboy movies but once I saw what it was really about Im sooo flabagasted at this amazing history. I feel so privilaged to have had the opportunity... more
