I recently visited the museum after having not been there since their expansion in 2003. I had a great time touring the Yin Yu Tang Chinese house and would highly recommend it. Do yourself a favor and make a point of going to the PEM while staying in Salem, but make sure you start early as there are what seem to be never-ending rooms filled with wonderful displays of artifacts from around the world. As someone who has done design work for a number of museums, I have to say that the PEM is outstanding. In particular, we made a trip out to see the Joseph Cornell show, which was spectacular. Definitely worth the price of admission for the open-minded and learning-oriented visitor to Salem. more

If you were only spending one day in Salem, you could well spend it here. The museum is attractive with nice exhibits, but what makes this a standout is the tour of historic properties owned by the museum. Included in the admission is a tour of nearby houses.
