As we left Kingman Arizona, heading back to Idaho, we saw numerous signs that said "no commercial vehicles/large trucks/buses etc"....were allowed to drive across Hoover Dam. We drove on and encountered a little guard shack about 4 miles South of the Dam. The officer just "waved us through" did not even check us. Odd, we thought. So, anyways....we drove across... more
We really enjoyed our visit to the Hoover dam. We took the advice of other reviewers on Trip Advisor and used the parking structure comin in from the west; if the weather is hot, it's a long walk down from the areas where you can park fror free on the opposite side. We took the $11 tour and felt that... more
Do NOT trust this outfit - Gray Line Tours. Once they pick you up and get you to their departure station, they hit you with an additional "gas fee" before they give you your boarding pass. This "fee" is not documented anywhere or mentioned. Our trip was part of a Priceline package. Priceline was uninterested in investigating this issue. Please... more
It costs $7 to park your car, $11 for the powerplant tour (which I took), and $30 for a much more in-depth personal tour into some other areas inside the dam not covered by the powerplant tour. I think, contrary to what some other reviewers noted, that the powerplant tour is worth the $11. For someone like myself who didn't... more
If you're looking for a free (well, except for gasoline), interesting activity while you're in Vegas, Hoover Dam is a great choice. It's a real easy drive South on 15 to 215 East to 93 South/East. Took a half-hour or so to drive. Pretty scenery. Passed by Lake Mead which is nice, too. Per other suggestions on this site, we... more
This was a must on our tour of SW USA. Reached the dam at about 10.00 just before the main crowds & tour buses (good move). We opted for the turbine room tour and visitor centre tickets. After a short film and a wait we were taken down into the bowels of the dam with quite a good tour guide.... more
We visited the Hoover Dam and the best part of the trip was the drive out and the sight-seeing we did ourseleves. I would definitely reccommend going to the Hoover Dam. It is about a 25 minute drive from Vegas with beautiful scenery that makes the trip go fast. We opted out of the Dam tour (which costs $30) for... more
We made a quick visit to Hoover Dam from Las Vegas and found the view and site very impressive indeed. We did not join a tour but just walked from one end of the dam to the other. It was a great experience to view the two sides of the landscape, on with the water of the dam, the other... more
We booked the Hoover Dam VIP tour through Tix 4 Tonight. We paid $63/person for a great tour. They picked us up in a small shuttle bus with large windows and only 15 people. Our guide Joanie was a comedian and very entertaining. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the Dam and then you spend 15 minutes watching... more
