We visited Maui to celebrate our 5 year anni. We were on the island for one hour when we stopped at Iao Valley Needle. We were only out of the car for 20mins tops and our car was broken into. We parked in the main parking lot with lots of people around (10am). Didn't matter, they took our backpacks and... more

My husband and I had some extra time one morning, so we decided to make a quick trip over to Iao Valley State Park. I would only recommend this for a quick stop - there isn't too much to do or see here. The Needle is pretty to see, and the stream that rushes over the rocks is nice as... more

From pretty much anywhere on Maui except maybe Pala its a short drive to the Iao Valley area and its well worth the time. This is one of those pristine, beautiful places that you definitely don't want to miss. more

Compared to the rest of Maui, this was a disappointment. Lots of people, very little to see, and dirty. Litter every where. Very commercialized. more

There isn't a lot beyond looking at the needle and up and down the valley from different views, but it is green and very worthwhile. If you like green tropical canyons, you won't be disappointed. There is a trail beyond the rail at the needle lookout point, but it doesn't lead to any views better than the lookout, especially ones... more

If you're like me, you can never see enough cliffs, mountain slopes, and raging streams on Maui. (Yes, I'm the guy stopping to experience and photograph every waterfall along the Road to Hana, sorry ... go around.) But once you've done the rainy said of Haleakala, you still have a thousand-thousand more absolutely breathtaking views to take in. You have... more

Loved this beautiful spot. I had just sprained my ankle on some uneven pavement at the Maui Tropical Plantation and still begged my hubby to drive me to this beautiful serene spot. SO glad we did. So worth it, although I could not do the walk down to the stream. Wish I could have. Mountains covered in mist and rainbows... more

After a 2 hour drive one way from Lahaina to Haleakala two days earlier, I had low expectations for Iao Valley. But my family seemed to enjoy it more than the crater. It was only about a 40 minute drive from Lahaina. We drove off Highway 30 into a residential road. Then pretty soon we were in a lush, tropical... more

Pronounced (eee-ow) valley state park, this place is where you will find the natural wonder the Iao Needle, a gargantuan peak that points to the heavens. This place is quite stunning and the lush greenery makes it feel all the more peaceful and relaxing. There were quite a few visitors present when we arrived, though I wouldn't call it crowded;... more
