Staff is rude. Bathrooms are disgusting! They "clean" them but dont really clean them. One bathroom had buggers on the walls the entire 5 days we were there, another bathroom had a used dirty female product on a window, it was there the entire stay too. ive been to other state parks, this one was horrible. no privacy, the campsites... more

We just returned from a weekend in Galveston. We participated in their free sea life tour that they held every Sat. morning. The volunteers doing the program were very knowledgable and the program was very interesting, however, after pulling a net full of tiny fish, squid, rope fish, etc. out of the shoreline beach, we didn't feel much like swimming!... more

I think the beach at Galveston Island State Park is a great place for any tourist to take a walk on the beach. This is a lovely campground to enjoy camping and a beach vacation at the same time! The spots are extremely level. We arrived in the late night hours and had no trouble setting up the camper in the dark with the level pad. There is also plenty of space between sites, very roomy. Sometimes staff say that park is full, but when you get there, plenty of spaces are available. Most staff are curt with you over the phone. Only spoke with one male staff member that was friendly. On-going construction of east end of parking lot is an eyesore. Park definitely needs some improving. Bathrooms are run-down and cobwebs fill the corners... more

I grew up just 'down the road' in Pasadena, Tx. Over the years, I've been to most of the beaches in Galveston and to the artificial beach (Palm Beach) @ Moody Gardens. I like this park but it has gone through some tough times, good camping spots and a close walk to the beach from the camp spots, Bathrooms are what you would expect at the beach, semi dirty....but I did notice new construction on the last visit in late 04 so it should be up to standards by now.
