I live near Portland and the Chinese Gardens is always on my list of places to see with my visitors. It is simply beautiful. While within the walls of the Gardens, look up and you will see the high rises of downtown Portland. My favorite stop is the tea house. There is a unique selection of teas - a little... more

Given the small size and urban location, I had pretty modest expectations for Portland's Classical Chinese Garden--and was I ever wrong! It really is compact, but the design offers something in every nook and cranny to engage your imagination. Don't worry if you can't time your visit to coincide with a formal tour. Knowledgeable, friendly docents stroll the grounds and... more

A beautiful garden in the midst of downtown Portland. It's hard to believe there is a city outside. It's only about the size of a city block but the whole place is so wonderfully designed it feels larger. There are informational printouts available to tell you about the plants, the rocks, etc. But I preferred to go through it once... more

Once you step foot inside Portland's Chinese Garden, you can hardly tell you're in the downtown core of a major city. The beautiful architecture, flowers, water, sky, birds, and fish all invite a serene, contemplative state of mind. Plan to stay for a while. Sit and observe. Let your mind wander. My husband and I spent an entire afternoon just... more

This was my favorite botanic garden in the Portland area, and, considering how many gardens Portland boasts, that's saying something. The vegetation is amazing, and the structures in the garden are beautiful and provide countless opportunities for spectacular views. The garden is ADA-accessible, so if you are in a wheelchair (or if you're pushing a stroller), you'll have no problems... more

This garden is in easy walking distance of downtown, the light rail and the train station. It is beautiful and peaceful and has a small teahouse with, of course, tea and snacks. more

For me this is Portland's premier garden. I was awed by the buildings and having tea in the tea house was a real treat. This is a very special place and will always have a spot close to my heart. more

It's an unbelieveable sight; the gentle slope of a tiled roof, framed by lush vegetation and blossoming trees, with a huge skyscraper looming overhead. That's the dichotomy of this garden; you forget that you are in a busy downtown area until you see peeks of the street through the walls or hear the traffic. The garden is spectacular. The staff... more

We spent the day today, in the Portland Chinese Gardens. The flowers are blooming, a jay is nesting and will come out and swoop down to be sure no one comes near her nest, ducks are floating on the lake and it is quiet and serene...right in the heart of the City of Portland. The tea house is a wonderful... more
