I really liked this lagoon! There were a lot of tropical fish and one barracuda staking his ground. A little foggy because of the freshwater and saltwater phenomenon in places. If you are going to spend the day snorkling, start here then go to Akumal bay, so it gets progressively better. We did it the other way around, so it... more

Yal Ku lagoon was a cool treat. We had read about it on trip advisor and decided to walk to it from La Playa Tortogua (Turtle Beach). I would suggest you get a scooter or gold cart to rent as to walk it, is quite far. If you go, stop and eat at LA BEUNA VITA restuarant. The food was... more

My wife and I had a great time on our 3 hrs at Yal-Ku the first week of August 2008. Entry is $9 USD per person, which I thought to be high until I got in the water. It was worth every penny. Unlike "JMA" from Portland, the water was CRYSTAL CLEAR, so I cant understand their cloudy water experience.... more

I was surprised to read the previous reviews of Yal-Ku, because we had the opposite experience. There was TONS of fish and many different varieties. We encountered fish all over the lagoon. We spent about 3 hours here exploring all of the nooks and crannies. We did snorkel in Akumal bay. It was great to see the turtles, but we... more

In contrast to the other reviewers, we saw lots of fish in Yal-ku lagoon when we went June 2008, including a couple fun schools we played in. But nothing that we hadn't already seen when we snorkeled in Akumal Bay, indeed, minus the barracuda, turtles, and sting ray. the water is calm and there weren't too many people - we... more

We were disappointed in the reviews and forums of Yal-Ku Lagoon and would suggest to anyone who is a bit more advanced than a novice snorkeler to not waste their time here. We realize snorkeling can be a bit like going to the zoo – sometimes the animals are out and about to be seen and other times you come... more

My husband and I visited Yal-ku on April 11, 2008. I don't know what has happened to yal-ku, but I had a totally different experience that the other reviewers! Basically, it was a HUGE LETDOWN. The water was totally cloudy, you couldn't even see the bottom even though the water was only about 5 feet deep. In places the water... more

We spent a few hours snorkeling at Ya Kul lagoon in early April 2008. We took a collectivo and walked from the highway to the Akumal entrance arch. Took a cab from there to the lagoon for $6US. Entrance fee to lagoon was $8US. Got to lagoon about 9 am. Not too crowed then but later tours arrived and then... more

We visited Playa Del Carmen in Jan 08. For the entire family, the best part of the whole week was our morning at Yal-ku lagoon. I have a 10 and 7 year old so we didn't' want to try and snorkel in the reefs and have to deal with tides and currents so went to Yal-ku. This is a fabulous... more

Yal-ku is honestly like swimming in an aquarium. There are fish everywhere, all colours and sizes, just fantastic. It is very easy to float in this lagoon even without a floatation device. The water is beautiful, a little chilly when you first get in, but you warm up quickly. It does get a little murky as more people arrive but... more
