This is a great way to see India. I went as a single woman, and I felt safe from the minute they met me at the airport until my handlers carefully dropped me off at the airport. A lot of reviewers seem to be carping about the accomodations, but you have to remember, first of all, this is a train... more

I took the trip on 16 April, and it was a retirement present to myself! I had a single cabin and for a total of 7 people in our carriage we had 2 full time staff who could not have done more for us. I described the journey to my friends on my return as 'like a 5star cruise on... more

I had read some of these reviews before setting off on our trip on the POW and was a bit apprehensive but right from the beginning began to wonder if I was on the same train as some of the other reviewers here. First of all, I think some people seem to forget that this is a train. It moves... more

Just returned from 15 days in India - 6 nights spent on the Palace on Wheels. I echo some of the comments from others about the cabins needing to be updated. Things are looking a little worn and storage space is very limited, but we managed. You just have to be very neat and tidy. But the attendants in your... more

The Palace on Wheels is a nice way to tour India, however it is very expensive. The train is not neccessarily a palace, since it has not been rennovated in years ,but the accomadations are nice, and clean. The whole trip is controlled, from the places you will be shopping, to the museums and forts you will tour. This has... more

A friend and I boarded this "luxury" train on April 1, 2008. That the POW was not at all luxurious by western standards was immediately apparent to us. However, I could have put up with that, even though the cost was rather high. We had alredy been traveling all over South India with a car and driver for 3 weeks... more

I just returned from India today and a week spent on the Palace on Wheels. This train had a date of 1995 built on it. Most of the carriages, like the dining, lounge cars are wood and look nice, however the rooms are below average. The bathrooms are dated and very little storage space. A new train is being built... more

Went on the POW at the beginning of March and overall had a fabulous experience. We booked the trip first and then read the reviews on trip advisor and so had a pretty good idea of the quality of the accomodation etc and in fact I was a bit apprehensive because of the negative write ups. We were welcomed at... more

My family and I have just returned from a week on the Palace on Wheels. I read a number of reviews before boarding the train and had a reasonable idea of what to expect. We covered an enormous amount in only a week - unforgettable forts, amazing cities, camel rides in the desert, elephant rides to the forts and first... more

I think POW is the best way to see Rajasthan in a limited period of time, covering vast areas without spending too much time (and risking your life) on the roads. You have helpful staff and guides throughout the journey. They really do go out of their way to meet the needs of the guests. However, do not expect 5-star... more
