A tip for all those out there who have had the same problems as me finding out how to get to Rila Monastery without going on an organised tour. The largest monastery in Bulgaria, Rila Monastery is very pretty. There are regular buses that travel from Rila up to the Monastery, located 27 km away. The church has beautiful iconic art and visitors have the option of spending the night there. more
