The sights are really very pretty, especially in the Spring. The paddle boats can be a bit of a slog, so be prepared for a workout. The staff handling the boats, unfortunately, are surly and uncommunicative. You'll be left to guess as to how to return them and barked at if you guess wrong. This area in DC is a great place to take a walk. Cherry trees line the walk way around the basin and give way to great picture taking opportunities of the Washington Monument and the Jefferson Memorial. On our most recent visit we rented paddle boats for just a few bucks. It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon.... more

If you've done the Tidal Basin circuit, and are bone weary for a place to sit and some food, a little known place is the Fish Market on Maine/Water Streets. You need to be on the side of the Basin that is near the Jefferson Memorial/Bureau of Printing-Engraving. There is a road between the two of those that is Maine... more
