Stague Fort is definitely in a picturesque setting! However, as compared to the forts at Cahersiveen, also on the Ring of Kerry, Staigue isn't as complete and you aren't supposed to climb it. Of course, its also more authentic. But, its further off the main Ring of Kerry road. I'd do Cahergall or Staigue, but you don't need to do... more

This site is at the end of a twisty lane. You cross a little stream, put an offering in the bucket nailed to the gate (for the local land-owner) and have the whole place to yourself - unless you are there during peak season. The fort looks down over the sea, is backed, almost like a loving blanket, by mountains.... more
