As previous reviews have indicated, the roof is being replaced. However the sight was open and we could walk around quite a lot of it, though I think there was more that we could not access. There is still a lot of scaffolding around, but you can walk through the buildings, even if there is a lot of building work.... more

I'd been to Akrotiri in the mid-80's. It was my second time to Greece, but only my first time to any ancient ruins and I was very impressed with what seemed to me to be a fantastically preserved site. We just returned from our trip to Santorini (June 3, 2004). While there, we visited the ancient ruins of Akrotiri. I would call it a work in progress.
