While staying at Rudesheim I simply had to visit the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz. We went by local rail link from Rudesheim to Mainz. The Museum is a MUST for any time-served Compositors. This museum in the heart of Mainz is a must see for those interested in the history of the Reformation and the impact that bringing the Bible to the population at large had on this movement. Just being able to view a genuine Gutenberg Bible is worth the effort but they also have an area downstairs where you can watch... more

I was very excited to be going to this museum and seeing the Gutenberg bible and the replica of his press. The museum was large and had a huge collection of pre-press books and handmade books from before the 14th Century, press-printed books, miniature books, a binding display, an Asian printing display, a history of Mainz display and on and... more
