The Munich Residenz was without a doubt one of the most elaborate and beautiful places we visited in all of Germany. We went here after several of Ludwig's castles and were obviously disappointed. The castle tours are informative and interesting, just long enough for the average attention span. This place is huge and the audio guide is too detailed for the average tourist's level of interest. The treasury section was more enjoyable. more

I was misled by the guide book into thinking that the Residenz stays open till 8 pm on Thursdays. It doesn't. I entered at 5.15, and from the moment I arrived I found myself being chased around by attendants eager to shut up shop.
