The Heavenly ski resort area had beautful views of Lake Tahoe. Plus there is something for everyone with skiing and the casinos. However, use caution on the runs with thin paths - snowboarders often stop in the middle, so you you will have to stop in order to not hit them. The views over Tahoe are unbeatable from the cable car & pretty much most of the mountain. We lacked snow at end of January, but the Heavenly can make it's own so no real issues. Cheap hotels, friendly people and most importantly great skiing! If you are a boarder you might not like it that much as there are some flat sections.
