This is a very peaceful, interesting canyon. The sides of the canyon are classic west, and the bottom of the valley transposes from western to northeastern flora as you go deeper into the valley. I was a bit skeptical about the idea of this being "the prettiest place in Texas" with the explanation that it has deciduous trees, but.....it is... more

In Feb, I hiked the McCittrick Canyon trail as far as the Grotto. Great canyon scenery along the way. The first major area of interest is Pratt’s Cabin. It was someone’s ranch home that they donated to the park in the early ‘70’s. It’s located in a great setting, though the cabin itself is unfortunately closed in the winter months.... more

McKittrick Canyon is a spectacular canyon jewel hidden and protected from the outside world between a narrow outer wall (Frijole Ridge) and the main part of the Guadalupe Mountain Range of West Texas.
