Traveler Reviews on Guilin

Sheraton Guilin Hotel

Oct 4, 2008

We stayed here for one night. It's been undergoing rennovation and open about a week when we arrived in May. In China, that's bad news. Rule of thumb is to let the finished building sit for about 2 months with the windows open due to the use of volatile chemicals in the paint, adhesives, furniture, carpeting and finishes. As it... more

we just loved the rooms - all so different and the views were fantastic. The service was very pleasant and friendly and the whole experience was one not to miss. we would recommend this lodge whole heartedly. Ask to see the photos the owner has taken of the region as they are beautiful more

Fubo Hotel Guilin

Location is great. Nice view of Li River if you get the upper level rooms facing the river. Quiet but walking distance to the hustle and bustle of city center. A tad bit overpriced though considering Guilin is a city with lots of hotels. However I had a check out experience that puts everything into the dumps. A hand towel... more

Guilin Bravo Hotel

This hotel has a beautifuyl view across the lakes, especially if you get a room on the top floor with a balcony. Unfortunately it felt a bit more like a Spanish Hacienda than a hotel in China, and I went there to experience Chinese culture, not European. Having said that the food was excellent, and the hotel very pleasant, but... more

The location of this hotel, on the river and a bit out of town, suited us (we were staying for a conference being held in the hotel). It was only a 15 minute walk into town and it was probably the quietest Chinese hotel we've stayed in. There was nothing wrong with it as such but the service was rather... more

The Fubo wasn't anything great. The staff didn't speak English very well and the lobby smelled horrendous. It smelled like some musty old basement that's just been opened for the first time in 10 years. The rooms were okay; small and serviceable. The location was okay - it's right on the riverfront and only a short bike ride away from... more

Li-An Lodge

Sep 25, 2008

Staying in Li-an lodge was extremely disappointing in terms of value. On one day the air-con was not working. It turned out that somebody forgot to switch on the central unit for the whole lodge and since we were the only guests, nobody noticed it. Next morning, there was no hot water when we waked up... we got an explanation... more

My wife and I recently stayed at the Li-An Lodge with a couple of friends and found it to be, quite frankly, one of the greatest accommodation rip offs it has ever been my misfortune to encounter. The experience did not start well when the ‘luxury 7 seater transport’ which was to take us from Guilin to Longji and back,... more

Fubo Hotel Guilin

Sep 20, 2008

the bad: the hotel was a little dirty and also very far from things. If I was ever to head to guilin again, i'd get a hotel closer to the action. we found ourselves always walking far in the morning and night to get everywhere like the bus station, restaurants, breakfast, grocery store, etc. there was a cigarette butt by... more

A beautifully designed lodge and superb location, BUT the food was indescribably bad and the service was so amateur as to be laughable - at every meal we were informed that ONE drink was included in the price, the staff were invisible except at mealtimes making it impossible to get a drink from the bar (or a tea/coffee) other than... more

Golden Elephant

Sep 5, 2008

We stayed at the Golden Elephant for 2 nights and booked online as we needed an early check in as we were arriving in the morning on the sleeper train from Shenzen. This was no problem and they let myself, my husband and our 2 year old check in at 8am. They even had a baby cot ready for us.... more

Like the last reviewer, I booked this hotel online with Expedia - which according the the absolutely RUDE staff, has been problematic for them!! I was travelling the country as a single parent traveller with my 7 year old daughter. Like the last reviewer, I arrived from the airport (flew in from Chengdu), and we arrived at approximately 4p.m. and... more

Hotel of Modern Art (HOMA)

We are always looking for something a bit different and still luxurious on our travels, and we really hit the jackpot with the HOMA hotel which we stayed at during our eight week family Around the World trip - we stayed in 18 different places in all. The rooms are lovely, though the lighting in our bedroom was quite poor,... more

We were allocated this hotel by our Agent and she made the right choice. Our local guide said that this was her favourite hotel in Guilin and we could see why. Located on one of the five inter-connecting lakes throughout Guilin City we had a fantastic morning walk watching the early Tai Chi and dancing rituals. The hotel boasts an... more

This was a medium class hotel that was okay and in a good location. The rooms were clean and provided good views over the river. Speaking to other guests, they felt their rooms were a little substandard however the one we had I guess must have been recently refurbished as had new sanitary ware. Cheap and good quality meals in... more

Universal Guilin Hotel

Very modern hotel right next to the river. If you came by bus and it dropped you off at the main bus station, you come out from the its main gate and turn left towards North and keep on walking. It's quite a long walk (about 20 mins for us with big backpacks) from the bus station. Room was nice... more

The upgrades to this hotel have made it an attractive top-of-the-line hotel in Guilin. The public areas were truly modern and the rooms and the amenities in them first class. Separate shower and tub, piped music in bathroom, itron boards, safe, robes, coffee maker, internet, etc. Breakfast had great choices including fresh croissants served at your table. Pleasant bar/lounge to... more

We only stayed here one night - but we really liked it. The hotel is in a great location next to the lakes and a short walk from the city center. The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was tasty. I really hope to return to Guilin soon and I would definitely stay here again more

Guilin Park Hotel

Aug 2, 2008

Recommended by a friend of mine. Not great, not awful. The hotel is set back off of the back side of the old city moat, and is not walking distance to anything of great interest. The good news is that taxis in Guilin are cheap and easy to get. The rooms are decent size. But they were rather worn and... more

Lijiang Waterfall Hotel

Aug 2, 2008

I have to echo much of what has already been said about the hotel. This was arranged for us through a private tour. We were told it was the best in Guilin. - The location is great, there is no denying that. - The carpets throughout the hotel were absolutely filthy. - The breakfast buffet closed at 9:30am. Seemed ridiculous... more
